Lecture Overview

Unknown to many, Indonesia as a coffee origin has gone through a significant revolution at the farm level over the past 5-10 years. A large number of new, younger producers are now processing excellent quality coffee with a high degree of transparency to meet the demands of the global market and competition. Unfortunately, many global coffee consumers and buyers have not really been exposed to such progress given the past stigma of this origin in regards to its quality, traceability and scalability. As coffee folks from Indonesia ourselves, we want to share why the global audience should give this origin a second look. In this presentation, we will be presenting the hidden scene of specialty coffee in Indonesia and how it has progressed over the last decade. We will also share knowledge, examples and stories of how this farming and processing revolution is taking place - across some major producing regions alongside some interviews & stories we collected from the farmers themselves. Finally, we hope the audience will learn the direct positive impact these revolutions are making to the livelihoods of coffee farmer communities and learn some ideas on what the future state of Indonesian specialty coffee might look like. Enjoy!
