CQI Q Processing Level 1 Renewal Course

This course reviews core QP1 objectives and concepts in order for students to demonstrate their current knowledge of the traditional processing methods and unit operations in post-harvest processing.

What is the course about?

This course reviews core QP1 objectives and concepts in order for students to demonstrate their current knowledge of the traditional processing methods and unit operations in post-harvest processing. Students are also given a chance to learn new and relevant information on a variety of rotating processing topics in order to enrich their skills and the value of their certificate.

Who is this course for?

Current (or recent) holder of a Q Processing Level 1 certificate.

Per CQI Rules, Renewal is allowed 6 months before or after the expiration date of the certificate: three years after original course. For questions please reach out to instructor who can verify eligibility with CQI!

Course outline:

Session 1 will focus on CQI concepts and the history of coffee processing

Session 2 will focus on the coffee value chain and the operations chain as well as the anatomy of the coffee fruit.

Session 3 is about processing methods in botanical terminology and Fermentation.

Session 4 focuses on Drying and current issues.

Through the SKH platform, the participants will receive a student workbook in which notetaking is prompted, references are provided and that serves as a study guide before the exam.

Language?

This course will be taught in English – questions on the forum are accepted in: English, French and Spanish.

All sessions are required prior to taking an online exam to renew the certification. Access to the exam is dependent on this pre-requisite.

Location:

The course is delivered entirely online, in live sessions of two hours (maximum) each. Participation is encouraged and welcome! All questions can be answered live as well. Additionally, there will be a forum available during the time of the course (November 17th to 27th) where you’re welcome to post questions as well.

Testing:

All participants will receive a test invitation from a CQI platform directly. The email will come from “testinvite”. The test will open after the conclusion of the course and stay available for only 48 hours to complete it. A webcam is required for the exam as the system automatically takes pictures while the candidate is taking the exam; and the only acceptable browsers are Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

The instructor:

Roukiat Delrue has a master in international business and a longstanding history in the coffee industry, with over fifteen years of experience. She is originally from Belgium (although born in Africa), and currently resides in Guatemala.

She is a certified Q Grader and Q Instructor; for both Arabica and Robusta; as well as "Q Processing" Instructor (L1). Roukiat also holds a "Q Processing Professional" certification and is of the rare few "Q Processing Experts". She is a WCE Certified Judge and Head Judge since 2009; and is actively involved as a Volunteer with World Coffee Events.

Roukiat is also a Green Coffee Advisor for very few select clients.

As far as courses go, Roukiat has taught more than 60 courses, in a very large number of countries including: Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Brazil, Costa Rica, Switzerland, Australia, etc. In addition to teaching, Roukiat has consulted for several clients, from coach to barista competitors (one world champion, twice finals in world) to specific QC analysis for farms as well as regional QC for overseas customers to perfect their offering. She considers herself privileged to live in a producing country, as nothing equals that direct interaction!
